FIRST 5 KidConnections Program

As a provider in the KidConnections Network of care, we provide developmental screenings, assessments and interventions for children prenatal through 5 years old. Services may be provided in a child’s home, school, community or location of caregivers’ choice. The team conducting the screening, assessment, and providing the intervention services may include a Mental Health Clinician and/or a Developmental Specialist depending on the needs of the child. The team will debrief the family on the outcome of the assessment explaining conclusions and recommendations for services. Recommendations for services may include:

  • Home Visitation
  • Therapeutic Services
  • Preschool
  • Early Start Program
  • School District Services
  • Other Community Resources

In addition if a child requires a diagnostic assessment, a referral may be made for a Transdisciplinary assessment involving a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Marriage and Family Therapist (LCSW/MFT), a Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Developmental/Educational Specialist, Psychologist, a Developmental Pediatrician, a Neuropsychologist and/or Psychiatrist, along with referrals to other specialty services as needed.

Baby Steps Program

Catholic Charities’ Baby Steps program provides in-home parent/child attachment and parenting support to pregnant women and infants, particularly those who have been impacted by the criminal justice system. Baby Steps staff works to concentrate on early attachment and those elements of early childhood that can be of concern to new mothers such as maternal depression, anxiety and high levels of stress. The inclusion of a parent/child group is also included as it works to build a natural community of support for caregivers, and to break the isolation and stigma they may be experiencing.

Child & Family Behavioral Health Services

Family & Children's Counseling

Our Children’s Counseling Center provides therapeutic services for children, ages 6-17, and their families. By utilizing different treatment modalities and working in conjunction with a child psychiatrist as necessary and appropriate, the staff seeks to help children and families address emotional and behavioral concerns in order to help improve school and home functioning, social relationships, coping ability, and self-understanding. In therapeutic sessions, focus is placed on providing clients with a supportive environment and helping them learn and utilize tools to cope with the challenges of their specific developmental stage and life circumstances. Services are provided in a culturally-sensitive manner in a safe and comfortable setting.

Our team also provides on campus therapeutic counseling support at Santee Elementary School in San Jose, Rancho Middle School in Milpitas and Columbia Middle School in Sunnyvale.

Kindred Souls

Kindred Souls supervised visitation program seeks to provide children in foster care, and their families of origin, the opportunity to visit in a “home-like” supervised environment, utilizing therapeutic approaches and interventions to address areas of difficulty in the family relationship. Through therapeutic visitation sessions, staff seeks to help families learn to overcome conflict, modify troublesome behavior, facilitate positive and productive communication, and improve bonding. Parents are able to learn to implement disciplinary tactics, utilize age-appropriate play techniques with children, provide positive reinforcement and soothing, read a child’s emotional cues, and identify and meet the needs of the child.
