VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Pick-up or Deliver Donations on call - as needed
Volunteer & Program Description:  Donations come from schools, churches, businesses and individuals. They need to be picked up and delivered to Catholic Charities program offices.
From time to time when we place a client into housing, we need a driver with a van to pick-up and deliver furniture.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Church, School, Corporate & Community Group Programs
Volunteer & Program Description:  Organize a collection of gifts for the poor.  Contact Rubén to identify a client need and match it to your group’s interest.  Brainstorming sessions and presentations are available.  This is a good opportunity for classes, clubs, programs or groups.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Computer Literacy Instructor Volunteer & Program Description:  Assist Vietnamese or Mandarin speaking older adults with computer lab.  Flexible hours and days are available.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  ESL teacher
Volunteer & PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: ESL Teacher Program: Lead an ESL class for seniors at different levels of English. Preferably more emphasis on practical day to day activities.
Language Spoken:  English, Mandarin, Vietnamese
Days/Times:  Monday – Wednesday from 9- 11 a.m. or 1 – 3p.m.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  ESL Conversational Partner
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Help tutor small groups of seniors to learn to speak English.
Language Spoken:  clients speak English, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Fluency in these is languages is not required, but might be helpful.
Days/Times:  Monday - Friday from 9 - 11 a.m. or 1 - 3 p.m.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Senior Nutrition Program “Hot Lunch”
Volunteer & Program Description:  Catholic Charities' Senior Nutrition Program serves hot, nutritious meals to older adults (60+ years old) five days a week in a social environment.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Brown Bag Program, Citizen Program and Building Maintenance
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

  • Brown Bag Program:  Every Wednesday from 10 - noon, help unload and bag food delivered by Second Harvest Food Bank for very low-income seniors.
  • Citizenship Program: Help tutor small groups of seniors in the questions and answers required to pass the citizenship test. Monday - Thursday from 9 - 11 a.m. or 1 - 3 p.m.
  • Building Maintenance: Help with small projects to keep the historic building clean and presentable.

BROWN BAG PROGRAMS:  Hosted by Catholic Charities and Second Harvest Food Bank.  Help prepare and distribute bags of groceries to seniors.  NOTE:  Volunteers over 55 who live in Santa Clara County are eligible to belong to RSVP and receive some benefits.  Please ask the volunteer coordinator for details.
