Youth Center
Program Description: Our mission at Washington United Youth Center (WUYC) is to provide youth and their families with the support needed to be successful in school, employment, and in the community. WUYC offers programming targeting youth ages 12 to 17 and support services for parents and other adults. The facility includes a gymnasium, multi-purpose room, classroom, counseling room, conference room, game room, boxing room and administrative offices.
Volunteer Opportunity Responsibilities: Lead exercise classes; minimum commitment of 10 weeks

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Tax EZ Program Volunteer
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Help low-income families and individuals (earning under $49,000/year) who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) may receive between $457 and $5,666. Tax Volunteers will be trained with Tax Law and TaxWise (software used to prepare tax returns) November-December 2010 at Catholic Charities.
Volunteer Opportunity Responsibilities: Training classes will take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-9pm. Volunteers may also train online. Tax prepares are certified by the IRS. Other volunteers are needed to greet the tax prayers and do an in-take process. Volunteers would serve during January through mid-April of 2011 at locations in Mountain View, San Jose and Gilroy.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Donation Station Assistant
Volunteer & Program Description: New and gently used clothing and household items will be received, sorted and displayed and given free of charge to anyone referred by a partner of Step Up Silicon Valley: Campaign to Cut Poverty. Groups welcomed.

Help receive donations and assist donors in filling out in-kind donation forms.

Help organize, sort and display the items at the donation station.
Assist donation station shoppers.

Dates/Times: Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 am. – 6:00 p.m.
Volunteer Shifts Available: 2 hour shifts (or more) available 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Pick-up or Deliver Donations on call - as needed
Volunteer & Program Description: Donations come from schools, churches, businesses and individuals. They need to be picked up and delivered to Catholic Charities program offices.
From time to time when we place a client into housing, we need a driver with a van to pick-up and deliver furniture.

Program Description: For over thirty years Eastside Neighborhood Center has provided educational, recreational, wellness, nutritional, and social services to very low income seniors in East San Jose.
Volunteer Opportunity Responsibilities: Volunteer would help with set-up in dining room, prep, serving lunch and clean up depending on time volunteer is available

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Brown Bag Program, Citizen Program and Building Maintenance
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

Brown Bag Program: Every Wednesday from 9 a.m.- 11 am, help unload and bag food delivered by Second Harvest Food Bank for very low-income seniors.
Citizenship Program: Help tutor small groups of seniors in the questions and answers required to pass the citizenship test. Monday - Thursday from 9:30 – 11:30 am or 1 - 3 pm
Building Maintenance: Help with small projects to keep the historic building clean and presentable.

BROWN BAG PROGRAMS: Hosted by Catholic Charities and Second Harvest Food Bank. Help prepare and distribute bags of groceries to seniors. NOTE: Volunteers over 55 who live in Santa Clara County are eligible to belong to RSVP and receive some benefits. Please ask the volunteer coordinator for details.
