Case Manager / Housing Search Specialist

Job Description:
GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION: Searches for qualified housing for tenants, inspects housing and arranges for required approvals for use of the property, assists tenants in addressing rental eligibility, etc. Contacts and collaborates with specific community agency personnel who provide other case management or treatment services for the residents of housing resources. Advocates for residents when their tenancy is in jeopardy. Provides housing services information to residents of the facility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Conducts outreach, marketing our clients and program to landlords, and searches for housing for HUD McKinney-Vento Homeless Grant program (New Directions Medical Respite) and other programs, as needed.
• Verifies intake forms and documentation of eligibility for residents of HUD subsidized housing service
• Assesses clients for match with housing options, explains options and financial requirements.
• Help clients through housing process, including negotiating lease.
• Completes monthly and quarterly activity reports and other required documentation such as Rental and Utility spreadsheets.
• Assures that the permanent housing units pass HUD’s Quality Standards (HQS)
• Complete Environmentals documentation, including taking photos of apartments and submit it to Office of Affordable Housing
• Advocates for tenants in risk of losing the lease due to violations or eviction notices
• Assists clients in maintaining their HUD residential arrangements and in resolving crisis situations.
• Records services, maintains client files.
• Completes all paperwork for check requests and payment to landlords, and other administrative and operational tasks, as needed.
• Enters data in HMIS, AWARDS, and other databases.
• Attends staff meetings to facilitate coordination and collaboration of tenant services.



SUMMARY OF OTHER JOB DUTIES:
• Attends required training sessions conducted by CCSCC
• Participates in Behavioral Health Division meetings and work groups
• Other responsibilities as assigned to support specific department needs
• Attends training on HMIS, AWARDS databases, and other supportive housing service skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required education and experience:
• Experience in housing search
• Minimum of one year’s experience in human services
• Good oral and written English skills
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, counseling or other behavioral science or equivalent preferred
• Real Estate license and/or Sales/Marketing experience preferred
• Automobile and valid CA driver’s license
• Auto liability coverage according to the agency requirements

Knowledge, skills & abilities
• Cross-cultural and interpersonal skills to address needs and negotiate between diverse, ethnic and homeless community residents and landlords.
• Knowledge of community housing resources, organizations and supports
• Knowledge of mental health and alcohol, substance abuse and recovery treatment services a plus
• High energy and patience in working with difficult, non-compliant clients.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team.
• Computer proficiency with Windows products
• Culturally competent motivational interviewing skills a plus
• Availability to work flexible hours, e.g. evenings until 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays.


HOURS: Part time - up to 19 hours per week
HIRING RANGE: Contingent on education, experience and language skills
