Educational Promoting Early Childhood Literacy and Reading Aloud to Young Children

Contact: Alejandra Arreola, (408) 283-6152,

Description and Services:

Literacy Fiestas promote and demonstrate the importance of early childhood literacy and of reading aloud to young children (0-5 years) on a daily basis to help ensure their successful transition to kindergarten. The Fiestas are fun-filled literacy events held in local homes for parents with very young children (0-5 years). Fiestas empower families to read aloud to their infants and preschoolers and to develop their children’s early literacy skills.

Our Early Literacy facilitator conducts Fiestas at social gatherings held in local homes for small groups of neighbors, family and friends with children under 5 years of age.  Parents explore a wide variety of children’s books; engage in interactive role-plays; and practice reading aloud using wordless books, story books, and other illustrated materials. Parents and children receive books to take home, and the host/hostess receives a beautiful basket of books and other age-appropriate educational materials for their own preschoolers.
