Older Adult Services

Summary of services:

• Supplemental income for seniors dedicating 20 hours per week to special needs children

• Tax-free stipend of $53 per week ($2.65 per hour)

• Transportation allowance

• Daily meal

• Accrue sick/vacation time

• Annual physical exam

• Accident/liability insurance

Who is eligible?

• 60 years of age and older

• Low income (based on Federal Poverty Level)

• Reasonably healthy

Children are served in:

  • Public Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Child abuse facilities
  • Correctional centers

Q. Will the stipend affect my status for low-income housing/SSI/Social Security?

A. No. FGP is a federally funded program designed to help seniors who are assisting their community by nurturing special needs children.

Q. Where will I be placed?

A. Sites are always chosen by this criteria:

  • Proximity to Foster Grandparent's home/transportation issues
  • What type of special needs children the Foster Grandparent would like to serve
  • Languages spoken by Foster Grandparent/children
  • Educational background of Foster Grandparent
  • Where there is a placement need

Service sites and hours of operation:

  • Service hours are defined by site need (e.g., schools generally include morning hours)
  • Hospitals, Children's Shelter, Juvenile Hall can be at any time of day/evening
  • Foster Grandparent Program Office hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
