ESL Instructor (2018-65)

LOCATION: San Jose, CA

STATUS: Casual, Non Exempt

GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION: The main duty of an ESL Instructor is, essentially, to prepare lesson plans and to teach English Language Learners. This includes teaching grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking and exposing students to American culture. The ESL Instructor teaches English language skills that will enable speakers of other languages to effectively communicate in English.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct ESL classes to immigrant adults in a classroom setting
  • Record daily students’ attendance and maintain attendance records
  • Prepare curriculum based on program goals and objectives
  • Assess, evaluate and counsel students regarding classroom performance
  • Submit on-going progress reports and perform all required reports
  • Coordinate and assign duties to volunteers as needed
  • Attend meetings with Catholic Charities Program Manager and partner organizations as needed

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • TESOL certificate/ degree (or in progress of completing) or experience teaching English Language Learners

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Experience in developing innovative instructional approaches or best practices that address multiple learning styles

  • Excellent cross cultural and interpersonal skills

  • Familiarity with ESL Program design, development, implementation, and evaluation. 

     

    OTHER PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills
