Catholic Charities is working closely with Santa Clara County’s First 5 and Kidconnection programs to deliver First 5 Services. Employing evidence-based practices, First 5 services are targeting high-risk children and their families with the goal of preventing, reducing, and eliminating mental health issues that may be inhibiting their and their family’s wellness. The Therapist supports First 5 by engaging families, in individual child, family, and group therapy to reduce or eliminate escalated behavioral challenges exhibited by students. Extensive training will be provided.


1.      Provide individual, family and group therapy:

o   Meet with children and families in the schools, community, or family home

o   Engage children and family in counseling sessions using Brief Strategic Family Therapy to prevent, reduce and treat behavior problems and improve family functioning

o   Formulate, implement and monitor individual children and family assessments and treatment planning

2.      Provides Clinical Case Management services

o   Meet with families in the school, community or in the home

o   Conduct follow-ups and monitor service delivery and client progress

o   Ensure that all required documentation is properly completed within the required timeframes

o   Transfer family and service documentation to electronic data systems as necessary, including AWARDS (electronic health system) and other required Medi-Cal based tracking systems

o   Maintains a caseload of 12 to 15 families

o   Complete all required County and agency assessment tools

 3.      Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor


LMFT, LCSW, or PsyD, MFT, or ASW registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (REQUIRED)

 Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Bilingual Spanish/English – (REQUIRED)

  • Experience in First 5-

  • Experience with; ECBI, ASQ SE, ASQ 3, CANS EC, KCN Parenting Scale, KIPS, CBCL

  • Board of Behavioral Sciences registration as MFT Intern, ASW or PCC Intern

  • Counseling experience in a community based setting

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Understanding of Medi-Cal eligible service provision and billing requirements

  • Understanding of and sensitivity toward economic and cultural issues in diverse communities

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and Internet usage)

  • Ability to pass certification requirements for CANS assessment and Triple P Levels 4 & 5 within 90 days of hire (training and support will be provided)

  • Team oriented with strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Valid California driver’s license, automobile for local travel and client transport, proof of current auto insurance

  • Fingerprinting and background check as required by the DOJ, and DMV clearance

  • TB test

Physical, emotional, and intellectual Requirements:

  • Thrive in a fast paced, diverse and dynamic environment

  • The service is sometimes physical, requiring setting up for events which may require transporting or lifting cumbersome materials, e.g., easels, flip charts, refreshments, brochures, chairs, tables, etc.

  • Must be able to report to service site on a regular and reliable basis

  • Able to deal with stressful situations

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours, as appropriate, to coordinate and provide services and activities for families during non-traditional hours

  • Able to travel between sites and to attend offsite events throughout the county, as appropriate

 Other Qualifications:

  •  Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
