Summary of services:

Welcome to Washington United Youth Center - a place for youth and their families to learn, grow, and have fun! This is a positive, safe place where teenagers come daily to play and learn. Parents and other adults participate in recreational and support services that enhance their quality of life and help strengthen their families.

In 1997, Catholic Charities, a non-profit social service agency, was selected by the local community and the City of San José to operate Washington United Youth Center. Our mission is to provide youth and their families with the support needed to be successful in school, employment, and in the community. Washington United Youth Center offers programming targeting youth ages 12 to 17 and support services for parents and other adults. The facility includes a gymnasium, multi-purpose room, classroom, counseling room, conference room, game room, boxing room and administrative offices. The following activities are available at the center:

• Sports: soccer, volleyball, football, handball and basketball

• Game room: pool, foosball, ping-pong

• Structured programming for youth and parents

• Individual and family support

• Arts, dance, and artistic programs

• Cultural programming and events

• Computer Techlab

Who is eligible?

• Youth between the ages 12 to 17 years old

• Some programs for parents and adults

Are there any fees?

• Fee for membership card is $3

• All programs free of charge except PAL Boxing, which is $55

What volunteer opportunities are available?

Volunteers interested in building life skills with youth, while playing basketball, soccer, handball, volleyball and football are needed. Mentor youth while playing a game of pool, foosball, or ping- pong. We are looking for committed volunteers to join our team. (Tb test as well as background check are required)

Summer hours: 2 PM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday

Regular hours: Monday through Friday between 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
