Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County (CCSCC), our region’s largest health and human services nonprofit, seeks Community Service Volunteers to provide community outreach, counseling and/or case management support to families in need to life circumstances and/or during community disasters such as an earthquake, flood or other crisis.

The volunteer will use their expertise to provide direct support to families in need due to either life circumstances or a community disaster (natural or man-made), requiring additional support. The volunteer will receive training and the satisfaction of knowing that they are making a real difference at a critical time for a family and our community. 

Key Responsibilities: Working under direct supervision of a CCSCC staff person, the volunteer will get training in agency assessment protocol, follow agency guidelines, including client confidentiality; assess resident safety per agency assessment tool and protocol;  provide direct client services, including counseling, therapy, information and referral, and case management; provide administrative support by completing forms on hard copy or via computer per training;  provide individual services to families in need and facilitate support groups.

Skills and Abilities:  Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and listening skills; basic computer skills; social worker, case manager or therapist background desirable.

Time Commitment and Length of Appointment: hours/week and time of day varies based on volunteer availability and the program and/or community crisis situation.

Requirements and Training:  Successful Fingerprint/background clearance; maintain by-yearly TB skin test record. Complete the Volunteer Training administered by Catholic Charities SCC.

Minimum age:  Must be 18 years or older with valid driver’s license, clean driving record and insured functioning vehicle for transportation.

Program Description: Spartan Keyes Community Action Center Family Harvest Program distributes food monthly to approximately 150 low-income families.

Volunteer Responsibilities: Greet families, unload food pallets, package and distribute food and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements: Friendly, patient, team player. Volunteer must enjoy helping people; be willing to follow safety rules to maintain safe working conditions, and conduct self in a professional manner at all times.
Volunteer will receive training and ongoing support.

Dates/Times: 4th Tuesday of each month from 1:00pm – 6:00pm.
Minimum six month commitment.

Minimum age: 16

TB clearance required.
Fingerprint/background clearance is required for over applicants 18 years and older.
